mormon twitter cracked
by Vlad Nistor on Jun.13, 2009, under News Articles
Adding to the list of high profile Twitter targets hit by crackers is now Church of Latter Day Saints (@LDSChurchNews). Intruders microblogged that the inventor of their imaginary friend, Joseph Smith, was a liar (which he is). The account was taken down and it is yet unknown if it will ever come up again or if anyone will really miss it (I sure won’t).

Ida, the missing evolutionary link found
by Vlad Nistor on May.25, 2009, under Media, News Articles
Last week, an international team of scientists have released information regarding a 47 million years old fossil they have been researching in secret for the past two years. If what they claim is true, then this is the “missing link” the anti-evolutionary camp has been complaining was missing for years and the proof scientists needed to show they were right in their assumptions all along. Scientists say Ida is the link between primates and the rest of the mammals, which is a great breakthrough for evolutionary science and a step forward in confirming yet again Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.
The team of researchers have released a website, a book and a documentary. The documentary will air tonight (9pm ET/PT) on the History Channel in the United States, tomorrow on NRK (Norway) and on the 30th on ZDF in Germany. The BBC has a version narrated by Sir David Attenborough entitled Uncovering Our Earliest Ancestor which will air on May 26th at 9pm on BBC One. For more information please feel free to visit the website at http://www.revealingthelink.com/.
The implications of this are enormous! I will be writing a follow-up article detailing the implications after I have had a chance to see the documentary and probably one more after I get my hands on the book. Until then feel free to have a look at the short presentation from the researchers’ website:
Switch off your lights this Saturday
by Vlad Nistor on Mar.28, 2009, under News Articles
At 8.30pm this Saturday join millions of people around the globe and switch off your lights for Earth Hour.
This year Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and climate change.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote. By switching off your lights you will be voting for Earth and showing the world that we need to take action.
For more information about this global event visit the WWF website. I will defenatly be participating in this great initiative. We should do this more often methinks.
Texas trimumphs over creationists, barely
by Vlad Nistor on Mar.27, 2009, under News Articles
You may remember that the Texas State Board of Education was discussing weather or not to introduce a longtime curriculum rule that “strengths and weaknesses” of all scientific theories should be covered in science classes and textbooks. This was introduced by Republican conservatives and was aimed at combating Evolution, trying to get creation/intelligent design into the curriculum as a counterbalance to Darwins’ theory.
The reason this motion was allowed in the first place eludes me. Why are people trying to teach religion instead of science? If you want your kid to not know science send him to live in the desert where Jesus lived, with no running water or electricity, because that is the kind of prehistoric crap you’re trying to shove down his throat.
This was a narrow win, if we can even call it that, considering the vote was 7:7, a draw.
